The Fremont Boulevard Safe and Smart Corridor Project would assess problem areas along the corridor, evaluate technologies best suited for each problem, and implement the appropriate technologies to make the corridor safer. The project is consistent with the City’s Vision Zero traffic safety goals, meets the City’s General Plan vision and sustainability goals, improves efficient multimodal mobility, and supports the growing population along Fremont Boulevard.
As part of the Vision Zero initiative, Fremont Boulevard reduced auto-collisions by 30% in 2017. The technologies implemented as part of this project would continue to help reduce auto-collisions along the corridor.
To read more about the project, visit the Project Overview page.
The project will take a comprehensive approach to address many of the existing traffic related issues along Fremont Boulevard, ultimately improving multimodal mobility, enhancing safety, and improving overall efficiency for all modes of travel along the Fremont Boulevard corridor.
Key project elements include:
Typical construction related work that motorists may witness along the project corridor includes installation of communication and signal conduits along the roadway shoulders as well as at signalized intersections. Motorists may also experience minor delay due to temporary traffic lane closures due to various project related work. Lastly, motorists may experience occasional traffic signal outages as the contractor replaces key traffic signal hardware at the various signalized intersections.
